Chris W.
After reading about SPFI conversions to EA81's, and thinking that would be cool....The thought came to me, why not replace my very tired and ticking EA82 with a fresh EA81??? Yes I have given much thought to an EJ22, but since I'm mostly intersested in milage and reliability, I thought the EA81 might be the easier swap? Please, feel free to give your opinion. Thanks much, Chris
baccaruda
go for it. You'll have slightly fewer horses under the hood but as long as your EA81 doesn't have a feedback carb, it'll be super easy to wire up.

Caboobaroo
If you have powersteering, you'll need a powersteering bracket from an EA81T because the EA82s reach out farther to go past the timing belts. Also, you need to find an EA81 that has the bosses for the powersteering bracket as well. I was going to do this swap into an '87 GL coupe but then I found a good engine for it so I'm sticking with the EA82. You'll also have to mod the disty from an EA82 to work with the EA81. Basically after the powersteering pump issue, look at the EA82 SPFI onto an EA81 threads because that will give you an idea of what kind of mods have to be done. It's pretty simple actually...
