backwoodsboy
Ok all you folks using winches, Im looking at possibly purchasing a winch for my 86 brat. Now I figure my brat cant even be close to 3,000 LBS on the average day, and I see all these ATV winches out there with all the goodies (for $250.00-ish) rated at 4,000 LBS! Now I know the old adage..... overbuilt = under-used = longer life But has anybody run an ATV winch? Or do I need something beefier? I also dont want to weigh down the front end of my brat, or lighten my wallet too much Opinions? Thanks!

Numbchux
I've heard from many sources that you should get a winch rated at twice the weight of the rig it's on....
Scott in Bellingham
if you get a small winch also get a pulley (or block) so you can double the strength, also so you can pull around corners, I used my 8000 lb ramsey last time out, it wasnt for me but the guy with the brocken hub in the Isuzu trooper, I set up with bumper against a tree and used the pulley to get inline with him, we used all 80 ft of the cable, go bigger if you can, there will come a time when you will be glad you got the bigger one SJR

(there was a big ol trooper on the other end) warn (I think it was) had this nifty thing with chains and a channel so you could hook the winch around a tree then put the hook on the cable on you're car... lazy mans come-along.
