Vince F
I'm looking at the 07' Impreza Wagon, and trying to decide, wether the WRX or 2.5i are the best for me. I drove both and like the power of the WRX, but the suspension beat me up. I have muscle damage from a chemical exposure injuy that damaged my muscles and Everything else. The 2.5i was easier on my bod, but maybe a little more power would be nice, though not driving a stick in 25yrs, and not familiar with the car, I probably could have chosen gears better in the 2.5i. I am not averse to modding things in the future, and I might not see the need even with the 2.5i with my physical limits, since my reaction times are slower, but would like something that would be easy to mod IF I decided to. If I got a WRX, I'd be wanting to Soften the suspension, and I Don't like the hood scoop. I don't like the look, and it affects my view. I don't like anything, even odd noises interfering with driving. I would want a FMIC if I had a turbo. Been trying to find out the difference between the 2 motors, and was only finding compression ratios. Then I found 2 Dune Buggy sites that use the motors, and they were saying the open deck block can be taken to 300HP adding a turbo, as long as boost is kept under 10psi, and Seems to say with the Stock pistons. One fills the space between the sleeves and outer block, and makes it a closed or semi closed deck, able to take even higher power. Was reading about head gasket leaks in Stock motors. Subaru is said to fix it with stop leak, but there is one type of leak that is external, and one internal. Late models are said to have an external leak. One guy claimed air in the cooling systen can cause hot spots and warp the heads, causing the leak. It sounds like except for the closed deck, and lower compression, the WRX had the same strength pistons, rods, and crank as the 2.5i. Subaru won't tell me. Would be nice to have the closed deck even in the stock 2.5i. Might avoid head gasket leaks, unless air and hot spots are the cause, but even so. Don't want to buy something it would be harder to mod later, or more expensive, but not knowing what I may want in the future, and like I said. I'd be wanting to change a WRX, softening the susp., and moving the IC, makes it difficult. VF
rllywgn
i quick simple answer could be.. It's cheaper to sften the suspension of a WRX then it would be to make a 2.5i "fast".. it's peppy but i wouldnt say fast.. plus theres a ton of great suspension options for the wrx as well as fmic kits at a somewhat reasonable price .02 cents rllywgn

86BRATMAN
You would probably only need to change the strut/ spring assemblies between the two. You could probably find someone with a 2.5i that would trade with you in all honesty. And there are some good cheap fmic sold on ebay by ss auto chrome, that have been tested up to 500whp range, with little drop in pressure. There are an exact knock off of a big company, but I can't remeber which one at this time. And with the fmic you could easily swap to a 2.5i hood to do away with the scoop. Also, with the fmic kits you'll have to get an aftermarket intake, the spt, cobb, and k&n typhoon systems are the only ones I'd recommend because they are designed to no mess with the maf's readings as some kits do. As far as internals, the wrx's are stronger, as well as substancially lower in compression. The 2.5i has 10:1 compression ratio, and that is far from ideal for a turbo. kingbobdole
Back when Roni was looking for something new to replace Dorothy, the XT Turbo we test drove an 2.5I.. what a turd. Get the WRX, and I'm sure someone wanting the fancier suspension and hood will gladly trade you parts. You should be able to make some bux off him too. rllywgn
if you buy wrx and do decide to trade for the 2.5i stuff.. I'm with kingbobdole, someone will be more than willing to trade.. if not here, on nasioc.com just post an ad when the time comes.. i dont think you'll have to wait long
