ezapar
I figured out how to level them out. The wife's 96 OBs has needed struts for some time. Yesterday it got 4 new ones. In the rear, I used springs from an 04? WRX wagon. They looked to be a little longer and firmer. Indeed. It lifted the rear up exactly 1 inch. The rear diff clearance measured 7 inches before and 8 after. I took it out on a test drive to the local windy road to see how it does and was very impressed. (Carkeek Park) I also added a 20 mm rear sway from an 02 sedan. Mama's car is very happy now. Me too, I can see out of her rear view mirror now. lol

We're not talking about my car in this thread, I'm telling folks how to get rid of the sag in a GC style impreza wagon.
avk
The wagon is not "GC", it's "GF".
ezapar
The wagon is not "GC", it's "GF". Gee thanks!! I know this, you'll note I put GC "style" as to make it easier to know that I'm not talking about the newer 02+ bodystyle.

idosubaru
no way, that's awesome. could you just swap to WRX rear strut assemblies? what years WRX springs would work, do you have an idea on the range of years that would work? did you use new springs or used? this is excellent, thanks! ezapar
I tried WRX spring/strut assemblies on the rear first. But, the end of the strut just below the threads has a different lip (for lack of a better word) than the GCish ones. There was a 1/4 inch of space that made a constant bang bang bang over bumps on the test drive. That was using my own tops. The tops from the WRX struts have a different width in the bolt pattern. You could use them if you felt comfortable redrilling the holes up top. I used used springs and new GR2s.

idosubaru
while i've done lots of swaps, engine and trans work, i've never actually disassembled a strut so pardon the follow ups. you bought new GR2 struts (OBS?), installed 04 WRX springs on them and used your top hats and hardware. is that correct? you think the 04 WRX springs made the difference in height and not the new struts? Yes to the above, the struts were just for an "impreza 93-01". you think the 04 WRX springs made the difference in height and not the new struts? Probably a little of both, but I'm guessing the springs are a big part of the 1 inch. EZ

wallaceg
Anyone know what year WRX springs can be swapped into a 93-01 Impreza?
idosubaru
Zapar, Imdew just mentioned that there are two types of 04 WRX springs, he said there are tapered and non-tapered varieties. do you know which one you used?
jamal
Anyone know what year WRX springs can be swapped into a 93-01 Impreza? 02-03. The 04+ springs are tapered and won't fit into 1st gen Impreza tops. They do work with 90-91 Legacy tops though, which has the same bolt pattern as a GC. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14852050&postcount=
