GLCraig
It's most likely that there are other subaru models that use the same cap. Sine you list the displacement at 1600cc, you probably have an EA71 OHC engine in it. With it being a 2wd, I would imaging that it will have a Nippondenso distributor but it may have the Hitachi Distributor instead. The next time you go to the parts store, try referencing an early 80's leone with 2wd and see if they can find a cap that matches yours. Can you provide a picture of the one you have? It would help us to identify which one you have.
kiwi subbie
its an Hitachi cap. in fact they dont even have much of the earlyer ea71 caps 4 the points 1. yea they did cross reference but of all the ea71 stuff nothing matched for electronic ignition disty cap. even the ea81 they found in the catalog was very different. looked at atleast 3 different brands of caps and nothing
Cougar
Will any of these work? http://oem.thepartsbin.com/parts/thepartsbin/wizard.jsp?year=1988&make=SU&model=LOY-4WDT-001&category=All&part=Distributor%20Cap&dp=false
Gloyale
It's a little of topic, but I have had my own trouble finding Disty rotors. My trouble was finding an 85,86 turbo rotor. I eventualy had to resort to cutting of some of the bottom portion of a later model turbo rotor. If it comes to it, and you just need to get something in there, try comparing rotor width and height. If you find one with the same width at least, you could try to cut it, drill it, or whatever to make it fit. Not ideal but it works. In my case it worked very well, and i will probably be cutting more in the future since the old ones are all but impossible to find.
idosubaru
might want to post in the "historic" forum, since this is an EA71. don't know if that will help at all, but those guys know the older stuff.
