viceversa
92 Loyale I get 1qt per 700 miles. The oil level noticeably drops if I drove even 120 miles. So I keep adding it all the time. The EA82 engine only has 95K miles so I am wondering why that is. It shouldn't be that worn. Something to do with PCV valve maybe? I think it is original with 185K miles on it. Goatboy
Well its gotta be going somewhere. Is it going out the tail pipe or on the ground?
richierich
Subaru says that oil consumption of a quart every 500 miles is not excessive. On EA82, I usually tell people that if it uses a quarter every 1000 miles, it is not abnormal. Replacing the PCV would be a good start. Has it had the updated intake repair? The SPI engine was spewing oil out the exhaust on corner because of a hose that went directly into the FI assembly. I don't have pictures of the repair but maybe someone else online does. The repair kit is like $18 from Subaru. A good tune-up would also help. In addition, do you change your oil every 3000 miles. After 3000 miles oil will start breaking down, cause it to burn and needed to be added to. On my turbo I use a quarter every 3000, but it is a Japanese engine. But when I take it skiing, I see that I am always just a little down on the stick. Driving a car hard, like up to the mountain seems to effect mine. Good Luck. frag
Like Goat Boy says, look under the car in the morning. My Loyale did'nt burn much oil, but it was leaking from almost everywhere specialy the cam covers. At the rate you're loosing oil, if it was all burned by the engine you would certainly see blue smoke coming out the the tail pipe.
Goatboy
It could only be leaking when it is under pressure too. So there would not be any leak under the car after sitting all night if that were true. You could jack up the car and look around for fresh oil under the engine. Maybe spray it off real good first so it would be easier to spot. Drive it 100 miles and then look under it again for any sign of leaks. -- GoatBoy
viceversa
I don't see any oil puddles under the car, not even drops. I don't see anything come out of the exhaust. Neither black, blue or white. I do however see that everything under the engine is covered with oil. Are you saying it is leaking while I am driving? Goatboy
Yes. Maybe your oil pump is spewing when it is under pressure. That would cause you symptoms. Or your Oil filter is loose or not sealed properly. -- GoatBoy
MilesFox
could be the rear seal, also, you wont see it, look around where the the motor meets the trans from underneath. is the oil pan oily? after a good many miles, the pil pan bolts will become loose, as the gasket shrinks over time. go around and tighten those up, too

viceversa
How do you access the oil pump and the rocker covers? I will also look in my Chiltons manual, once I get a chance to crawl under it.
torxxx
your most likely blowing oil out of the cam covers.. Mine leaks like a S.O.B. Also pull your skid plate off from under the oil pan, get in there with a 10 mm socket and make sure all of those bolts are tight.. They get lose and it will blow oil out that way too Oil pump is in front of the engine, right behind the elec. Fan on the radiator. Rocker covers = Cam covers.. I can reach all but 2 of the bolts on the covers... the other two, you have to bend those splash guards away from the motor a lil bit, and then you can get to them from under the car
