BIGBLUE1212
hey guys when the gas light comes on at 51 liters (13.15 gallons)left in the tank ive only gone 425kms (265 miles) meaning im getting 20 miles per gallon....thats doing 80% highway driving and not going over 60-65mph....i struggled to get it to go that for on that tank.....I've replaced the first oxygen sensor and checked my knock sensor and it was fine...it was quite rusted though and the rubber only was cracked......i havent replaced the second oxygen sensor and I had my mechanice look at the MAF sensor and he said it was clean and working properly....the car is throwing no codes. Ami missing something here?...the air filter is clean and the oil was just changed. 97 legacy gt 2.5 sedan
nipper
there are several things to look at. Blu gets between 18 and 27 mpg, and avg 21-22. First thing is look at your right foot. That has the most effect on your mileage. Next is look at your tires. Play with the pressures a bit. Check to make sure no break shoes are dragging. Clean the junk out of the car. You dont say if this is a manual or automatic. In a Manual quickly upshift. When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? Do you have high mileage tires or high performance tires on your car? High performance tires tend to be softer, which can decrease milage. Do you still have nosw tires on the car? You may want to look into hooking up a vacume gauge. With a Vac gauage the higher you keep the needle, the lkess gas you are using. nipper
BIGBLUE1212
I am not a heavy driver and I was really trying hard to get the best fuel economy out of my car on my last tank....trying not to go over or too far over 2000rpm when accelerating in the city and and not going over 3000rpm when accelerating on the highway. The car is a automatic...the tire pressure is at 32psi and they are just your standard run of the mill all season tires....they are the proper size for the car, 205,16,55... I dont know when the fuel filter was changed, ive only owned the car for 8 months and have put 12500 miles on it. How do i check the fuel filter? As for a vac guage I wouldnt know where to find one or how to test for a proper vacuum
porcupine73
You can't rely on the low fuel light. You need to measure the gallons filled into the vehicle with the same grade at the same gas station at the same pump for at least several fills under reasonably the same driving conditions including ambient temp to get a good comparison for fuel mileage. For the fuel filter, if it's been on for more than a year or 10,000 miles and you're suspecting it, just replace it, it's only like $20 for an OEM. Vac gauge if you want one just get something such as a autometer from summit. You can tie it in just about anywhere in the manifold vacuum system, there's several places. If you want I can post a pic of where I tied in.

Reveeen
im getting 20 miles per gallon....thats doing 80% highway driving and not going over 60-65mph I have no idea where you are getting "highway miles" in Toronto, before I moved away (and for sure on my last visit there) it was "high speed stop and go", rather than "highway miles", and as such 20mpg is ok. I get 36mpg (2.2 AWD turbo auto) "highway", but in Toronto I get 20mpg if I'm lucky, VERY lucky, 400/ 401/403, you call it.
BIGBLUE1212
I drive on the QEW the opposite way of traffic.....i go to school in oakville so all the traffic is going the other way....its just straight cruising
porcupine73
Well if you're not measuring the actual gallons filled into the tank, then there are possibly other variables at play that could account for the apparant fuel economy issue. Sure the low fuel gauge might be perfectly accurate every time. But maybe it isn't.
BIGBLUE1212
fopr the last 5 tanks ive waited for the fuel light to come on....and everytime....andusing the same pump at my local gas station ive filled up 51 liters of fuel within .5 of a liter....the light is pretty accurate by my standards...i 've made sure to use the same pump since everyone seems to make it a big deal to...so i took everything into consideration and at best im getting 20mpg according to how far i drive with using 51 liters of fuel everytime....and i dont overpump since the manual says not to. porcupine73
Hm..okay sorry about that so you are already measuring fuel added under similar conditions. Say I wonder, do you think this decrease in fuel mileage might be related to your burnt atf post?
BIGBLUE1212
hmmm yeah maybe there is extra resistance from the tranny or something.
