Recommend me an ATF

Recommended Posts

I've never really experimented with different fluids, but I've never had trouble running plain old Chevron or Citgo ATF in any of my rigs. I figure if I run the cheap stuff, I can afford to change it more often, which is probably better than putting expensive fluid in there and leaving it for a long time. (Of course, when it comes to engine oil, I run the expensive stuff and change it very regularly, but that's another issue:cool: ).

How many quarts does a 3AT hold, assuming the torque converter is empty?

FSM says a little under 8 quarts.

Additionsal details on my 3 cars - 100K mile changes. I don't drive them easy.

Sooner or later the vacuume modulator will fail (not related to oil), sucking ATF into the intake. Have a couple extra quarts on hand.

I'm going to try a different avenue.

Something that isn't on the shelf yet, but has existed for a couple of years. It has extremely good durability and is very, very resistant to shudder.

Dextron VI (thats 6. Dextron 6. Sweet.)

I can't tell you were I'm getting it or who designed it, though.

:-p
