lhrocker
My 2k3 legacy has like a decal above the rear view mirror (just dots - not sure what it is for). Is it okay to mount an EZ pass on it, or does the pass have to be on a clear part of the windshield?
nipper
Only the SVX requires a special tag http://www.e-zpassny.com/static/info/exteriortags.shtml Granted thats the NY site, but they are all the same. nipper
lhrocker
So Nipper, I guess that means it is okay to mount the ezpass on the "dotted decal" above the rear view mirror. I'll give it a try and see what happens. Sydfloyd44
What you see above the visor is called a "3rd Visor". The "dots" you see is a ceramic that is screened on the glass, just like silk screening a t-shirt. Same material you see around the perimeter of the glass and it is there to protect the urethane adhesive from UV breakdown. The 3rd visor just acts as a sun block between the 2 fold down visors and the dots are just to break up the appearance to not have a big black blob on the glass. Many think it is some kind of antenna or something but is nothing more than I just explained. Your ez pass will work fine if you mount it there. I mount them for customers at that location almost every day.
Hondasucks
I took apart one of those EZ Pass things that was from the bay area, little more than a microcontroller with a burned-in serial number, and a BIG arse lithium battery. I dunno if the new ones are RFID or what, this one was on the outside of the car though, mounted to the rear bumper.
lhrocker
Thanx for that bit of information - that's where I'll mount it.
