Sonicfrog
I was connecting the exhaust manifold to the new engine I installed in "Red", the $300 94 Alpine Wagon, when I noticed the driverside PS boot is fubar'd. They look easy enough to replace, but the Chiltons guide doesn't cover this repair. Any tips from those who have done this repair? Oh, I just called the local Pep Boys to see if they had a boot in stock, and the guy asked me "does the power steering boot goes on the cv axle?". Uhm, thanks. I think I'll get it from the dealer. lmdew
Easy to do. Spray the tie rod end with WD-40 or something of the sort a few days ahead of time. Put the car in jacks, mark the tie-rod jam nut location with paint. Un-screw the tie-rod end buy turning the steering rack shaft. The boot is held on by a spring and a spring clamp. Remove them. Put the boot on, but not the outer spring clamp. Replace the tie-rod end, adjusting it to you paint mark. Put the spring clamp back on. If your mark was good the alignment should be OK. That's it.
