littlegto
My 95 Legacy 2.2 is giving me a weird problem. The idle speed races up to almost 2000 rpm at start up and this morning when it came back down it almost stalled, then went back up to 1100 or so. If I give it throttle it would then race up a little and slowly come back down. After less than a minute or so it was at the normal 800 rpm or so. No CEL lights come on so it has me stumped and it does not do this every morning. Reminds me of a throttle cable sticking on my old Nova. You guys always seem to have the answers so I'd rather check here first. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
nipper
Idle air control valve may be dirty and or sticking. Its job is to stabalize the idle. nipper
porcupine73
Yep, or do you have any vacuum leaks or sucking/rushing sounds with the hood up?
Snowman
The actual high idle speed is not terribly abnormal if the car is cold. It does sound like your idle air control valve is dirty and should be cleaned though.
littlegto
Thanks for the info. I will try cleaning it on the weekend. This morning it started normally-no high idle.
