Spark plug recommendations

Recommended Posts

Checking over the 'work' whoever the previous temporary owner of my RX had do the 'tune-up' (term loosely used here) put in Autolite plugs. Blech. Besides hunting down the proper NGK BPR6ES-11's which are surprisingly hard to find in the 'Springs for some reason, does anyone have any tested recommendations for plugs? I'll be running a Blaster 2 with 8mm plug wires.

FSM statesDO NOT use champion plugs on the SPFI motors. I wouldn't run them in the MPFI either.

NGK all the way, even if you have to order them. BPR5ES-11,BPR6ES-11, OR BPR7ES-11

I've run the standard Bosch platinums before and they worked OK. I would still go NGK if you can find em

NGK or ND. I have used both on my two 1994 Altima's and the 1987 Brat. Actually used ND's more than the NGK's. As added information, NGK also makes excellent plug wires (custom for each application). So does ND. I use NGK wires on our Nissan's. Will change out the Brat wires to NGK or ND later this Summer, when I do a full tune-up.

Regards,

Funny, I just pulled a set of Autolites out of my car too because it was running really rough after some seafoam.

I pulled the wires one by one with the motor running, and #1 plug made no difference, so I decided it was new plug time and went with Bosch super-wamadine copper's. When I pulled all the plugs out and saw the Autolites I was like, "WTF? Who buys Autolites?" Now all my plugs fire. Hooray!

The gap on all the plugs were ~.060". Except for #1 which was at .065". All my new plugs were gapped to .044"-0.45".

New plugs work just great, I have tried platinums on my previous cars I have owned and have always had problems with them. I think I am going to install a new 02 sensor since all my old plugs were white. Designating lean?

I'm going to retract this statement. Partly inspired by this thread I pulled the bosch plugs out of the motor I had put them in. I can't find the electrode! It is a burned out hollow hole in the middle of the plug. I know that bosch plats don't have much of a center electrode but these have NONE. They have maybe 15-20K miles on them.

I try to avoid just about anything "consumable" that bosch produces outside of wiper blades.

I wouldn't use their plugs for anything worth a colorful metaphor.

Yeah, I have had great experiance with the bosch power tools. I have a Bosch drill, jugsaw, and Recip saw. They are all great and I love there power and smooth action. I guess I let that influence me to give their plugs a try. Bad idea.

If their plugs are anything like the security system they installed in our new computer labs, I wouldn't touch the plugs with a 20 foot poll.

There's been so many things wrong in the first two weeks with this new security system they put in.
