DAlgie
Hello, I'm the one that bought that Legacy a few weeks ago, it's now rained here a bit and I found the sunroof leaks, it seems to leak anywhere on it, not just one corner. Anyone have a fix, apart from a new seal, and if there aren't any easy fixes, any idea how much a new seal is? Thanks.
Setright
You should be able to fix it with minimal cost. Mine did the same. First off all, the seal on the glass plate is SUPPOSED to allow water past it. There are four drains running down through the roof pillars to deal with the water. Open sunroof, you should be able to see the top of the tubes at the front. Try pouring some water in there and it should run down and come out under the car behind the front wheel well. If not, you will need to unblock the drains. Compressed air, a long metal wire, whatever you can get in there and unblock it with. This however, was not what caused my leak, and blocked drains aren't common. The rails that the sunroof slides on are the weak point. There is a liquid seal applied to their underside that may be leaking. Either the seal is cracked, or as in my case, the screws holding down the rail are loose/busted. Loosen them all as far back as you can, and tighten them back up from the rear toward the front. (Should be able to access three screws/bolts). The bracket that holds the wind-deflector at the leading edge of the sunroof hole is part of the system holding the rails down. The bolts tend to strip and the nut can't be tightened enough. I cut a new thread on mine and filled the nut with "Loc-Tite". Two years later, it's still holding tight. Sorry if my explanation is a bit confusing, feel free to ask questions

DAlgie
Thanks guys, I'll open the thing now and see if the drains look like they might be blocked, otherwise I'll pull the rails up a bit and try to get some sealant under them. It's like 28 degrees here now, so maybe no more leaks, it's proabaly frozen! If I didn't say this before, this is one of the most helpful message boards I have EVER seen, you guys are cool! DAlgie
Yeah, the roof is frozen shut, I'll try when it warms up a bit.
SubaruGal
Definitely check the drains - I had a leak coming through my map light and also queried this group for help. After all this great expert advice, it turned out that it was a cherry pit lodged in the drain - no idea how it got there. Hasn't leaked since. Thank goodness that was all the problem was. Best of luck!
