cd45
OK, I know this is a stupid question but, how do I remove the body side molding. I want to paint it, and get under them to make sure they are rust free and covered with paint before I put them back on. Thanks.
86BRATMAN
There are a series of clips inside the doors. Pull the door panels, and pull away the plastic, look inside and you should be able to see them. This is how they've been attached on the ones I've been around. Some might have nuts on them, I've seen a few ea82 cars with that style.
Bill90Loyale
This is in the mild PIA category. Here's what I'd recommend: Go to the local auto parts store. Tell them you're looking for a "Trim Removal Tool". Should be less than $5. It's a fairly thin sort of twin flat blade that splits into a Y at the end. The rubber moulding is held on by plastic clips that press into the molding, and then little plastic nipples on the clips are inserted into holes in the sheet metal of your door, quarter panels etc. Using the tool, you insert behind the moulding, where the clips are located, and carefully pinch the plastic barbs on the nipple that "grab" the holes. This is simpler than I'm making it sound. Practice on a small section of moulding at the rear so you can see how they're set up. When you break one or more of the clips (which you probably will), don't be fooled if the parts guy says you have to buy a whole new moulding to get the clips. You don't. I think this is the right part number you're looking for: THE PART NUMBER FOR THE PLASTIC CLIPS: 91083AC100
heartless
i guess it would depend on what year car you are working on - on my 89 wagon, the pieces are glued on.
Gloyale
i guess it would depend on what year car you are working on - on my 89 wagon, the pieces are glued on. Early (85-86) were glued on. But they stopped glueing them on in 87. Perhaps you have a fender or door from an 85-86 or perhaps someone glued them back on after breaking clips. Yeah just like said there a a series of clip's on the fenders and doors. The clip speads when you push it in, So once you see the clip from the inside you'll need a plyrs to sqweez it together and then the molding wil pop out. Atlease that's they are on my 92 Loyale. But there could be nut's too. So best of luck bro, Later, Tom.......... Crocodial dundee proud owner of: 1992 Loyale 4WD wagon
