backwoodsboy
Hey all, I recently did the timing belt on my '93 legacy with the kit from Gates. Now I go to order the Gates kit again for my girlfriend's '95 legacy (also non-interference) .....and they are showing a different *and more expensive* kit for a 95 vs. a 93. Are they assuming all 95 2.2s are interference, thus the different kit? Her '95 is a 5MT ....so I KNOW its not interference. Shouldnt I be fine with the '93 kit? Thanks! idosubaru
i'd check some online subaru parts places and online stores like advanced and such and see if they're all showing a different part number as well. you're definitely right, all 95 2.2's are non-interference for sure. you say you're looking at a "kit". maybe the timing belt is identical but the kit is different? backwoodsboy
I just checked.....the timing BELT #s are the same the IDLER #s are different! I thought an EJ22 was an EJ22!?
idosubaru
i haven't made much sense out of all the EJ timing stuff either.
ShawnW
Same thing. The only difference in idlers, and its not consistant just because of a year thing is bolt length and how shallow the mount for the idler is.

Legacy777
More then likely the difference in belts is that one is a 60,000 mile t-belt, while the other is a 100,000 mile t-belt. Either way, the belts should be 100% interchangable.
