Ground clearance

Recommended Posts

Hello all. I need a measurement of the clearance between the ground and the bottom of the front crossmember for a GL Subaru. I measured the neighbors Outback (2005?) at about 8". Does anyone know how much difference there is between the old Subaru and a newer one? Also, can anyone tell me if there is a Subaru front suspension that uses upper control arms instead of Struts? Thanks for the help. Cheers. Dave.

TO my knowledge there isn't anything that uses what you are looking for, maybe on the new 08 impreza. I'm not sure about it either, I know they have done a massive redesign on the suspension but I have no idea what it involved.

'89 GL wagon = 7.5"

'82 GL wagon = 9"

'84 GL wagon, struts cranked all the way up = 11"

The front crossmember on the EA81's is not the lowest thing there by any means -- exhaust is probably and inche or two below it at least.

Thank you very much! I originally had the crossmemberset at 11". I measured the neighbors '05 Outback at 7" to the lowest point on the crossmember (a small bracket that looks like a PS mount or cover. The angle on the axels looked too high at 11", too low if I dropped it below 6". Now I can go forward with the rest of the chassis for the 2F1R 3 wheeler. The chassis rails are 5 1/2" off the ground. Because it's a 3 wheeler I want the lowest CG possible. This should do it. Thanks again. Cheers. Dave.
