Gammon
Hey guys, I'm new here. I'm a college student in Chicago, so my '92 Loyale wagon is the first car I've owned personally, but my family has driven Subarus forever. My friends like to make fun of it until a good snowstorm hits and I just click on the 4WD and go without a hitch, perhaps on my way to help shovel out their Neon or Camry. Or until I remind them that the whole thing cost less than two months of their car payments. I love my car. Anyway, I don't have much experience working on my car myself (aside from changing oil, lights, etc.) and I don't have a specific problem or project in mind at the moment, but I'm hoping to get better at hands on repair. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for finding a service manual. Perferable one I could order online. And if you have any quirks to warn me about with my particular model, that would be great too. Thanks for any advice you can manage, Ryan
Reveeen
the right direction for finding a service manual I *guess* you could buy one, but a fellow with a sharp eye might locate something just surfing the internet. There is a bunch of Subaru aircraft stuff here: http://www.ch601.org/engines.htm That can make for an interesting read. There is some interesting reading here too: http://www.economysuperstar.com/milesfox/subaru/service/service.htm Articles and pictures that can get a fellow out of trouble and maybe something for a fellow with a sharp eye. if you have any quirks to warn me about The whole car is "quirky", you either love them, or hate them. Bill90Loyale
http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=64407&highlight=new+owner+maintenance You can pick up a Haynes manual for about $15. Sears has decent socket sets and wrenches for reasonable prices. What you teach yourself on this car will help you for the rest of your life. Good luck. daeron
being a college student, I will recommend Harbor Freight Tools as a source of acceptable, DIRT CHEAP tools. I call the place "china-mart" because that is exactly what it is. Make no mistake, they are NOT top notch tools... but for the price, quite frankly, they are disposable. $15 bucks for a set of metric combination wrenches, 10-15 for a set of 6 different pairs of pliers, 15 for a set of screwdrivers... i cant quote you a price for ratchet sets, but you could spend $100 in harbor freight and have a similar collection (albeit MUCH lower quality, and without the warrantee) to what would cost you upwards of $300 at sears. As I said, they are "acceptable" and nothing more. Don't worr about sending good money after bad; they make a GREAT set of "in-car tools: that wont matter if they get lost or stolen in the future, once you get the fundage to buy good tools. Between the partial FSM available for download for free mentioned above, there is the USRM (Ultimate Subaru Repair Manual) and this forum... and you should be pretty well set. The "partial" FSM covers the engine and wiring, which is 90% of what you would have potential problems with anyhow. Welcome aboard!

Cougar
My friends like to make fun of it until a good snowstorm hits and I just click on the 4WD and go without a hitch, perhaps on my way to help shovel out their Neon or Camry. Or until I remind them that the whole thing cost less than two months of their car payments. I love my car. Spoken like a true Soob owner. For getting a good deal on a factory manual do a search on Ebay for "Subaru service". They have factory manuals for sale. If you don't see anything right now keep checking and you will get one. A factory set of manuals are the best to get. There may be a four manual set for a commplete set to cover your model year. A used set may run between $25 to $50 dollars. Some of the best money you can invest in your car.
discopotato03
May I possibly have any schematic diagrams of the Vortex XT Spider turbo inlet manifold ie where all the vacum lines go ? Also thanks for the GL10 4WD spring and damper rates which I gather are the same as the 86 RX Turbo . I think my front and rear anti roll bars measure ~ 19 and 16mm , does the FSM confirm this ? Thanks heaps , Adrian in Australia .
