Paint my Superlites?

Recommended Posts

I posted this on my forum but thought I'd see what you bunch thought about it. http://offroadingsubarus.com/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=46

I'm thinking about painting my Performance Superlite 15" wheels with black spokes and silver rims. I want to get some 28" A/T's on it in the future but for now she'll stay on the 215/60R15's.. I use a set of Nissan 14" with the kumho M/T's for offroading at the moment.

I still like gold superlites, on almost any car.. but if you DO paint them black, I would suggest a gloss black. Gloss black is my second favorite choice, given that you are painting those wheels.

I am an old fashioned guy in alot of my tastes.. and either bare mag, painted gold, or painted gloss black have been the three chief color schemes of that type of rim in all of my memory and experience.. *I* feel this is for a good reason.

I do like gold too, but the two reasons I don't want to paint them gold is; firstly because gold wont suit my ute in my mind, and second most superlites are gold, I like my car to stand out.

Gloss black is a definite. I want them to still shin so you can see the styling..

Well, then. Excellent, go to it! are you planning on limiting the black to the spoke only, and leaving the entire rim natural metal color, or were you painting the rim as well?

I don't know if I need to remind you, but I will anyhow.. prep work is everything. You might want to do a final wipe down with something like 91% isopropyl alcohol or something.. but make sure the surface is ready to be painted.

+1 for Silver or White. I think the black doesn't showcase the cool superlites enough. You might as well have black steelies. With the silver ring is worse even, too busy. Maybe chrome ring but flat silver looks.... well I don't like it.

White would look pretty sweet. Match the bumper and it'd evoke the old school spirit of the old white factory wagon wheels.

The ring around the outside would stay polished alloy. The bullbar is the same (infact we just finished polishing it yesterday) the sports bar is stainless steel. White is to normal. Seen to many Brumby's with white superlites. Gold is even more commen. But black. I've only seen that scheme on Minis and other old classics.

if the choice is narrowed down between black or silver i would go with black and the silver bead ring
Yeah, thats the options I was playing with.

I do like the white wheels on these cars, but when I put the silver superlites on it just looked so much better. And I'm starting to really like this black and silver idea.

I'm going to have to blacken up all my trim as well. Whats the best way to get them black again and keep 'em black?
