This is just a minor thing but today I had the diff oils, valve cover gaskets, and plug wires(NGK/OEM) changed on my 99 Lego wagon. It honestly feels like it's got 15HP more than it did before. It holds hills better, doesn't shift as much, and is smoother all around. So don't forget to think of your plug wires every so often. The old ones were originals from 99 as far as I could tell.

awesome! most EJ engines seem to be very touch with respect to their wires. much more so than the older generation stuff. i don't use anything but Subaru or Magnecor wires on the EJ engines, anything else is hit or miss (pun intended).

You know, I honestly think my plug wires are the origonals from 95 lol, they look old and gray with red plug boots, are these the OEM color plug wires?

They are in perfect condition so I didn't think twice about thier overall performance conditon. I should remove mine and check the resistances on them.

My 96 OBW has 217K with original wires - and it's been running amazingly well and averaging 25mpg around town. I'm very tempted to go ahead and replace the wires knowing full well they're on borrowed time. But I hate to disturb anything that may do nothing or even degrade performance she's running at now.

In otherwords, if it ain't broke, don' fix it.....

Good point for everyone! The plugs were done on my 99 about 10,000kms ago (also ngk coppers) and I was holding off on the wires untill I got the leaking valve cover gaskets taken care of because I didn't want oil ruining my pretty new blue wires.

Don;t forget your plugs people!!!!! I replaced mine, and now my car is so smooth, i payed $1.50 each YES $1.50 each for NGK's.

I currently have bosch +2 platnums in my car that I installed about a week ago and the car runs very smooth. I'm not the type of person that leans towards fancy smancy platnum plugs, especially +2's but they were free.99

Are NGK's the OEM type?

the good thing is that when they finally start causing issue it *shouldn't* leave you stranded, you'll just get a CEL, a cylinder misfire code, lack of power and some bucking...if you're really unlucky it might not drive or very well.

if you do decide to do it, do the plugs and wires at the same time. use NGK plugs and SUbaru only (or my favorite Magnecors) for spark plug wires. do not use any other wires in this engine, not all subaru's are like this, but anythign other than Subaru on your engine is risky.

and yes, more than just the "type", they are the exact OEM spark plug. the consensus is that stock OEM's are the best choice for mos subaru applications.

I obtained lots of new found power when I changed the plug wires in my Sport Sedan. The ones on there were the originals at almost 10 years old!

Change spark plugs often and keep your plug wires fresh if you want to keep your engine in tip-top shape.
