rverdoold Posted June 12, 2007 Share Posted June 12, 2007 I was thinking (yes bad, it hurts a lot:lol: ) My left front CV joint is wearing out. The clicking sound (only in fully turned left turns) is caused by a groove worn into the cv-joint the balls in the cv try to get back into the groove. This groove is only on one side since most of us drive in the forward direction. So the Left axle is rotating clockwise but if i will change it with the right one it is running counter-clockwise, making this groove in the other direction. Seriously, by the time your done beating the old axle out of the bearings and popping the balljoint and all that, you would want to put a new axle in and never deal with it again. I wished i could do that if it is not that easy here getting drive axles relatively cheap. If i convert the price i pay here it is arround $500 each, something i really dont have. nipper Posted June 12, 2007 Share Posted June 12, 2007 IN theory it would work, but not for very long. The metal is weakend by the groove, so it wont take much to really damage it completly by doing this. Out of curiosity, does it click in reverse? if it does dont even bother. Watch ebay for axles, replace the boots, then install them and you will be good for a long time. Failure mode is boot ripping then dirt destroying the axle. I need to replace my axle. Anyone know of a good rebuilder company that has cheap axles? or good ones you see on ebay? or should i just look for a used one on legacycentral?
