#89
30 mph into a traffic circle... all's going hunkey dorey ... stall , check engine light... coast to side of the road... no start . Getting fuel to carb, turning over (although quietish-ly!?), visible spark, battery charged full... ??? Everything looks alright on the outside of the motor... checked vac and electrical connections... all looks OK, except noticed one of the 'fusible link relays' (small faded yellow plastic with see-through top - 1 of 2 with 3rd slot between the 2 empty - what are these?!), near brake reservoir was blown... maybe unrelated? Ideas ? ! ? Ergghhh; thanks #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 669 miles :-\ JUSTY in 'progress' pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
[HTi]Dain
If the fusable-link is blown, she ain't gunna start. I don't thiink you can buy those....(?) but they aren't hard to get from the junkyard. You can also "make" one with some wire, connecters, and crimpers/strippers. But still replace it with the FUSABLE link. if its a relay, I don't know --replace it. nipper
You can get fusable link wire to replace the link, but the better question is why did it blow. Technicaly thats a HUGE fuse to blow, and should be easy to find the dead short that caused it. nipper

RONAN
Verify if you threw the timing belt or not.
#89
What made you mention the timing belt? Was it the 'turning over but quietly' description? I am away from the car for another hour or so... will check it out in more detail... Nug
If it sounds like it's turning over really fast, or unevenly, or similar, I'd strongly suspect the timing belt. You have fuel and spark, the only thing left is the engine.
Skip
questions 1) is the spark generating devise driven by the camshaft if so - no belt --> no spark 2) Have you visted http://subarujusty.proboards20.com/index.cgi
#89
Thanks folks...hold the phones... we have a winner! (OR actually, Loser - ...). Replaced the fuseable link/relay with a couple different functional 'handmade ones'... no luck! Popped open the plastic timing cover, sure enough belt torn almost through! (just enough for weak spark, I guess). Much Obliged again... #89 1989 Subaru JUSTY RS 4WD 127, 669 miles :-\ JUSTY in 'progress' pics: http://tinyurl.com/3y9h42
Nug
Well, that blows. I've heard that no-compression fast cranking sound so many times it's like I have radar.
