RallyKeith
I've got a 96 EJ25 with good heads but a loose bottom end, and I've got a 97 EJ25 with a good bottom end and bad heads. I know there is no difference between the short blocks, but are there differences in the heads? Keith
Jerry DeMoss
Is there a cam position sensor on the '97? Since I assume that is around the time that they went from obd1 to obd2 and also some of the subie engines went from non interferance to interferance engines. Subaru was partially OBDII in 95, and I believe fully OBDII in 96. That is why the 95 EJ22 will swap in place of any 96-98 EJ25.
86BRATMAN
As far as I know the heads are the same between the two. I've never heard otherwise.
ccrinc
The '96 EJ25 had hydraulic lifters, the valves are shorter, and there is a minor difference in the pistons. Those heads will fit that block perfectly. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
weddes05
I second that. They will deff work. You are goind to have to run 96 plug wire though with the square boots, and get the valve cover gaskets for the 96 heads as well. You will see the difference in the spark plug tubes. But a plus is you gain the cool 16V DOHC valve covers that you really cant see anyway
