opelsuby
'81 GL Wagon 4wd Manual tranny. I got this bull bar from a member. It suuposedly fits on my rig. Problem is I can't figure out where to attach the lower portion. See photograph #2. Wher it would slide up, all there is is some thin sheet metal. Also see photograph#2. Do I have the wrong bar or what am i missing? yeah I know the Soob looks rough. It is a work in progress. Any and all help appreciated. Photos of yours would be super. Sweet82
I have never seen a mount like that, My bar mounted to the shipping ties and bumper. From the looks and hole positions, I'd say it mounts higher in the rear. Most likely to the actual frame rails. Possibly to the motor mount holes/bolts? This would sit the bar level and be stronger? Put the front more level/leaning forward and see if it wants to mount to the frame rails...? In the pic it's leaning back
WoodsWagon
THe bolt spacing looks like it may use the engine crossmember bolts to attach to the body. If it can reach there, that's probably where it hooks to.
bratsrus1
Hi This is Jerry, those brackets bolt up to the engine cross member. You bolt that part up first then hook up the bolts to the bumper. Thanks Jerry
opelsuby
Thanks Jerry. i couldn't remember you Forum name. I'll peek under there again and look for the crossmember.
lonnie
mounted push bar this morn on my 85 brat. suggest you: 1. jack up rig and place stands; 2. jack up and support motor cross member; 3. release cross member bolts; 4. bolt up rear most slot on either side (do not tighten) 5. use second jack to raise front portion of bar (i had to trim bumperettes and really push to get past bumper); 6. bolt up foward slots on either side (do not tighten) 7. bots up foward attachment bars ( it should now be obvious where they fit) (do not tighten) 8. now tighten slot bolts 9. now tighten forward attachment bars hope this helps ps. on a later madel brat i also had to remove lower chrome bar which connects the two bumperettes.
