Yes I Own an MGB
Hey guys I purchased an 87 GL 4WD Wagon, and I'm having some issues with it. The motor seems to be good, but there is a serious vacuum issue with it currently, because it idles horribly erratic, and hestiates badly until 2500 rpm. It was most definitely missing, but I did change plugs, wires, cap and rotor. But now this idling issue has me going nuts. I thought I had identified the vacuum problem. Seems as if there was a hose off of the back driver side of the carb going to a check valve of some sort, and the valve nipple had broken off so a bolt was shoved into the hose. I went got a generic vacuum check valve at a parts store, and plugged it up, but it didnt seem to help very much. Any suggestions guys? Thanks! I'd replace them all. an important note though. There are small little metal plugs with tiny *orifice* holes in them inside a few of the lines. when you swap on new hoses, you have to fish out these little things and shove them into the new hose. If not, some parts of the system will recieve too much vaccum. They are identified as *orifice* on the vac diagrahms.
Cougar
Check the intake manifold gaskets for leaks. They are a common failure point.
Skip
Aye Keyrumba!! If there ever was a car needing/wanting to be converted to SPFI ---> Uownit!! Find an SPFI car in a boneyard and do it. The 4wd 87 EA82 was the last year for the carby-tooted model. What those poor engineers had to do to get it to pass USDM emissions -- well it is a wonder they run at all. There is a carb gruru who works for his own company I believe inconjunction with with CCR - http://www.ccrengines.com/ His name is Kerry, (Rubuilders was the name -but it's closed?) he solved this same riddle for me. Seems there is a vacuum diode (check valve) in the line to the thermo furnace or?? Been to long.... Good luck and l l l v Hey I own a TR3 the rest of this belongs in "Off Topic" shame on me. My " '57 small mouth 3" is THE first car I ever owned and I still have it!! I purchased it in 1965 - yea I'm an old fart. I also have many other "Bloke-mobiles" I have a 68 "B" the engine and tranny are in in dry storage, thinking --someday I'll.... Need a couple FrogEyes?? (aka BugEyes) not mine but thought you might like this how about a 948 A-series? Or a ribcase?? I'll go sit in the corner now.
Yes I Own an MGB
Thanks guys for the replies! I was told this was the board for older Subie's by the guys on the other Subie board. I tinker too much with the 5 MGBs to afford a WRX LOL. Skip, is there a FAQ section on here concerning that swap? And ^5 on the blokemobiles!
