I've got a guy with an 04-05 STi who wants to swap out shortblocks with me...

Do you think there just might be a reason for that?

You will get no incredible boost in power unless you take care of the ECU. http://www.autronic.com/ or something similar. All increased horsepower has to come from tuning, otherwise the ECU will be fighting against you. Now this will set you back about $1k, and then you have tuning time on top of that. I would get the exhaust and intercooler installed and save up to do it right. Throwing boost and fuel at it will just put the stock ECU out of set operating parameters. Remember the newer Subarus have ECU's that can be hacked and adjusted anyway they please with the right software, ours are not.

will that sm4 work directly with my car? and how easy are they to install i suck with wiring

The pigtail has to be wired to fit our ECU connector. You can have it done for you if you don't want to bother. But its really not that hard (color combo on wire equals number in connector). Just troubleshooting if you get it wrong can suck. :)

But this honestly is the only way to get legitimate power out of your car. Otherwise stick with exhaust and suspension. :burnout:

is there any suspension from another car that will work on my car?

STi suspension, as in struts/springs, up to '03 will fit. (I think '03 is the last year, might be '02). That is what I have on my car, you will need the front upper spring perches to match the new springs, everything else swaps over. You will have positive camber issues because the later STi's had a wider track. But overall it's worth it. You will need camber bolts for the back and possibly camber plates up front. It rides a little stiff from overdamping but is still daily driveable.

so some coilovers from an 02 with fit?

You just gotta watch, the strut top mounts are rotated differently on GC cars than the BC you are driving. Sometimes can throw the camber off or make it caster or some combination.

  • 2 weeks later...
reminds me of mine, lol.

 lets start a club. i have noticed there were different headlights and tail light set ups for the older legacys. like 90-92 then 93- till whenever they changed it again. with some lights on the trunk in the middle? that years are these and will the tail lights work on mine? minus the lights in the middle? my tail lights are kinda fugly

All the lights will swap out. Headlight design changed for the 92 model, you'd have to get the corner light from them as well IIRC. Tails changed in that year too, there are some interesting variations availible. The center as a tag mount is EDM(european domestic market). And some others.
