VABrat
Bear with this amatuer shade tree mechanic. Where is the fuel pump on my 85 Brat? I'm not getting any fuel in the carb--I can give it a shot of ether and it starts right up. I've changed the fuel filter, and fuel separator, and the gas in the tank is probably contaminated. I was thinking that I could run a hose from the fuel pump, turn on the ignition and drain the tank, but I cant find the darn thng. Thanks, VABrat
GeneralDisorder
You can't drain the tank that way - the pump only runs when the engine is running, or when cranking. It is located on a triangular shelf directly behind the drivers seat under the bed area. To drain the tank, remove the 12mm bolt that serves as a drain plug on the bottom of the tank. Probably best if you have that much contamination to just drop the whole tank and treat it so it doesn't rust out. GD
thealleyboy
Yeah, I like the idea of boiling out that tank. They are relatively easy to drop, and radiator shops do not charge much to clean em out. Nothing more frustrating than constantly changing fuel filters, and even rebuilding a carb, only to keep getting plugged up due to contaminated fuel. You may want to consider reconfiguring your fuel pump/filtering system, fuel lines if you are going to all this effort. Not sure if there is a better location on the Brats, but you can at least set it up to service easily with low-cost aftermarket pumps and filters. good luck, John
