Gloyale
I am building a new turbo EA82. I am using a block that was originally NA, SPFI. I am using the 7.7 cr turbo pistons and essentially a stock setup. My question is that there is not port in the top of the block for the PCV, just the 2 on the valve covers. What are some experiences people have had with this? Seems like I should be able to plumb the PCV system just like the SPFI setup. Or my machinist who builds race motors said to eleiminate the pcv and just put breathers on the valve covers. I am not sure this is a good idea. Who's tried what and what worked and how well? What are the results?
calebz
+1 for breathers. Thats how I ran mine. Though I was considering a catch can setup. Will probably come up with one on the next (read: last) build.
mikeshoup
Catch can is required. Mine would shoot oil out of the breathers, or into the intake depending on how I had it setup.
idosubaru
i don't recall the details but kingbobdole (phil) didn't like something about his breathers on his XT6. i think he ended up removing them, maybe mike knows more about that?

Even with a can there will still be some blow by. Easiest thing is to route the vents off the can under the car
kingbobdole
I have my 6 currently running 2 filters, the valve covers are T'd in the center and then there is a filter there, and then the block is filtered... I've been running like this for years with a few problems. First on hot days, or just because the blow by will flow in smoke form out from under the hood... neat. Also it seems that the block likes a little suction and as a result if I'm hard on the car, it'll push the dipstick out a touch and give the upper radiator hose a little oil.. which smells nice. I'm looking to put a catch can on the block.
Gloyale
+1 for breathers. Thats how I ran mine. Though I was considering a catch can setup. Will probably come up with one on the next (read: last) build. Was this on an NA block without the breather in the back of the block? I was hoping to be able to keep it setup stock, just minus the block breather. Will I have too much oil get to my intake?
calebz
Yup - NA block. I didn't have any more oil than usual when I pulled the IC lines.
MilesFox
the pcv works as a cross flow ventilation, taking in fresh air in one valve cover and then exiting the crank vapors out the other valve cover to the intake. simply take out the T connector for the block and make a straight hose. that is how i put a turbo on a carb block
