Suzam
Just so you know first off, no one was hurt. The young one borrowed the car for the weekend and was in the city last night when another car ran in front of her at the intersection. 2 air bags later... (see attachments, if they worked) The radiator was pushed against the engine which itself seem to be pushed back. Nobody hit the windshield, the passenger side airbag did that damage plus k/o'ed the rear view mirror. I guess we know that 12+ year old airbags still deploy. Unfortunatly at 160,000 miles I think we're done.
Olnick
Such joy. Such pain. Thank goodness the old warrior gave its all and protected your loved one, just as it was supposed to do. I'm sure you're counting your blessings right now. But I feel your pain seeing that gorgeous '95--in my prejudiced opinion the pinnacle of Subaru's efforts--with its nose punched in. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do. Long live the '95!
Suzam
Thanks for the thoughts and yes we are counting our blessings. It was Friday the 13th after all! The way the flatbed dropped the car wasn't the way I wanted it in the driveway. I started it up and turned it around so I could cover it temporarily from the weather. It complained a little but the engine ran quietly. The front tire is rubbing on the inner plastic but it still did ok after all that. A real little champ. 86BRATMAN
Wow, I'm glad nobody was hurt. Friday the 13th was a bad day for me too, but we won't get into that here. These cas hold up really well in the cabin area. A testiment to their design.
Olnick
It was Friday the 13th after all! That brings a smile to my face. My wife was born on a Friday the 13th, so it's a lucky day. For her! After a few unexplained weird happenings early in our marriage (many moons ago) I adopted a ritual of wishing her "Happy Friday the 13th" whenever it rolled around. Forgot yesterday but you can bet I called as soon as I got out of my car at work. Guess the karma didn't reach as far east as Delaware. Sorry! But hey, the car started and ran enough for you to turn it around. That's a great sign. Maybe you can recoup some of its value? At any rate, all the best to you and your family. Suzam
I am glad everyone is OK. Now I am going to ask, how much for the 2.2? Should could live on..... Well, since it happen on Friday and I haven't talk to the insurance company to see if they agree with my assesment. I MAY be putting it on the market. I like to think that this car will live on in some way. However, I need to replace the car fairly quickly, within a couple of weeks so I'm looking around for a replacement. I'll keep you posted on availability as soon as I figure out what I am doing, the replacement might be a Subie in need of a part or 2.
Setright
Glad to hear yet another story of people walking away from a bad shunt in a Subaru. It does look like it will cost too much to fix...shame.
NOMAD327
I've had cars less than a full year old where the air bags went off, and really not much damage at all otherwise, and they totalled the car. That particular car, the two airbags were over $3000 dollars which was certainly part of it. I don't think insurance companies like replacing air bags even on brand new cars, because they may in some part be liable should they not work at some future time? You can buy the car back from the insurance company after they settle and fix it on your own, but they will almost certainly not repair a 95.
