djbroadus
I saw this subaru this summer at alpine days in North Bend WA, It is one of the baddest subarus Ive seen. Are they on the board?
Flowmastered87GL
not that I know of. I have seen the car twice (at WCSS3 and 5) The car has (I think an EA81) with dual carbs. I know it has dual carbs, but not sure if its a 16 or 1800. I think it has an airplane cam too. I think the guy said it makes like 110-120 HP, but its been a while. I know he wasnt happy when he didnt get best modified EA81 at WCSS5. I think it went to Ken (I think) and his brat or Unhatched (I think he just won "best modified subaru period" of any class) Yes that hatch is 4WD... its a lowered 4WD hatch... why, well I dunno, but it still is nicely done :-)
GeneralDisorder
He wasn't runnning in modified - he entered it in stock..... and since I was the judge - and there's no way in hell that car is stock...... aint a single thing on that car that he hasn't touched..... he didn't get sqat. His fault for entering in the wrong catagory. It is fast tho. Stupid paint job. Airbrushed "Baru" where the Subaru logo should be - what the hell is a "baru" anyway? Sure isn't what I was told to judge..... He's taken a lot of "artistic liberties" with the car. For one thing there was NEVER to my knowledge a dual carb EA81 imported to the states - just JDM stuff - blatantly NOT stock, and yet he insisted it was.... Guess I just didn't take to the guy - kindof anti-social he was.... Whatever. GD
XSNRG
I saw the car at the WCSS too. It is a beautiful car to say the least. The guy spared no expense and was incredibly consious of every detail. He said he could not find NOS emblems and did not want any used parts on the car so he airbrushed them on. He told me that it took so long to get the bodywork and paint the way he wanted it he almost abandoned the project and when it was done it was way over the budget/estimate. The detail in the engine compartment was superb. I think that was the nicest early soob there, although probably not everyones favorite flavor due to the 4wd/lowering combo. I agree the car was not stock, should have been in the modified class. I can't remember his name but I think he was from the Seattle area.
Qman
$13,000+ Yep, that's what he has into it to date. It is a nice set up but... He was a little dissapointed that he didn't win in stock class again. I finally talked to him this year. He isn't a bad guy at all. He is a gear head and has no problem spending a buck to get what he wants. Word out is that he is building an EJ Brat now. I think he is trying to get more HP than I had at the show. <shrug> His Brat should nicely done when it finally has it's coming out party.
MilesFox
i was parked behind him at the show. but he was inclined to turn on his stereo and open the hatch as if to keep pace with the "Roof-Of-Boom" maybe he felt the need to compete with the TrashWagon, but mine and his are at the opposite ends of the same spectrum! i got "most miles driven" award
Goatboy
Could you explain your "Roof of Boom" to me? lol Just curious to what you've got going on? --GoatBoy--
ezapar
I also got to meet the owner of the car at wcss5. Did indeed think he was a pretty cool guy. Like his car, but you know me, I'm adamantly against the lowering of ea81 4Xs. Talked him into parking next to me so we could get a comparison shot. http://usmb.net/gallery/zapar/soobystuff_101 Also shown in the photo is the Fox's roof of boom. Or what I'd like to call. . . the assend of gas cans.
MilesFox
here is the roof of boom: I have a piece of plywood behind the headliner in the back. the headliner itself ic covered in carpet. I hae apait of 8" subs mounted cone side up on the ceiling, and the cavity behind the roof rack acts as the enclosure. i have a 200 watt 2 channel amp and crossover unit on the ceiling behind the dome light, and a pioneer cd in the dash i got about 100 bucks into it, used radio, speakers, amp, new tweeters, crossover, and subs
Goatboy
Ah. I found some of your pics that show them. Doesn't the Roof Vibrate really bad though? I have 6 1/2's in the front doors and 6x9s in the back and a pair of 12" Pioneers in a sealed box. All running of a 6 Channel 580 watt amp with built in crossovers. Powered by a Rockford Fosgate CD/MP3 deck. Kicks rump roast! I should get some pics up. Maybe I should give it a name. You know like "Roof of Boom" only maybe "Boom-aroo" or "Bass Wagon" lol Sorry to hijack the Thread. Didn't mean to. --GoatBoy--
MilesFox
it will rattle the roof rack, a desired affect, considering the roof rack isnt secured very well! (i had to hold it down for 20 miles because a screw fell out on the way to WCSS5
JWX
Hey, Zap what if that person has a lifted one too?
bushbasher
if that guy with the lowered 4x4 put in an rx tranny then It'd be alright, since you can actually use that on the street where it belongs.
ezapar
Hey, Zap what if that person has a lifted one too? I still wouldn't see the point. An ea-81 will handle like an ea81. 4X4 is in the car and on the mudflaps for a reason, for offroad. Lower your honda. Won't dislike anybody for doing it, but won't get it though. Caboobaroo
Don't hate me for sayin this but I'm planning on lowering my 79 wagon even though its a 4x4. Everyone is telling me to lift it but everyone and their brother lifts them. Me, I'm gonna go to the opposite side of the spectrum and lower it.....but I also plan on putting a twin turbo EA81 in it too.......
JWX
I'd like to see a twin turbo EA-81. and I do kind of agree with you, Zap. but they look good lowered the right way. on mine I want coil overs to lift it back up about 2 or so inchs and down 2 inchs. I think that would the the best of both worlds (btw that two inchs above stock hight)
