Ok let me see if i get this strait

ngk plugs

magnecor Wires

MSD Blaster 2 Coil

hitachi cap @ rotor

Did i miss anything i have a 1988 subaru dl fuel injected 1.8

I would like to ad that my vehicle is running ok. Ive always been a firm beliver that iff you purchase something give it a good tuneup just so you know what youve got into it. But ive noticed that subarus seem to run better on older stuff. Is this right. Should i just leave it alone until something does happen or just rip it all apart since im there anyways.

Any other recomendations for my wagon for parts would be great also

unless you have problems with your coil, i wouldnt see any need to replace it. It is not an incredibly common problem point, and when its bad it tends to be bad.

NGK plug wires would also be acceptable, magnecors are maybe an over the top measure.

your distributor is an hitachi, but I dont recall ever actually seeing and hitachi cap or rotor.. but whatever. As long as you get the right part for the right distributor you're golden.

Dont use a Fram oil filter, heh.. Fuel filter(s?) and air filter is also part of a good, thorough tune up. Wix is a good, top shelf brand of filter to use, if available.

well was looking to get alittle more (pop) from my ignition so thats y i suggested replacing the coil wisht msd blaster and get the 8mm wires and new plugs.

what about msd wires

also as far as oil there are all shades and colors

is it ok to run the high mile specific oil in these vehicles or doesn it truly really not matter

Coils: do a search on "jegs coil" in this forum. Good info there.

Wires: any set would be better than wires that are old. I replace them every 100K miles.

Oil: The cheapest oil you can find is good enough. It all has to meet increasingly tough standards. High-mileage oil has seal lubricants built in, but it's probably cheaper to buy cheap oil and add seal lubricant every year or so.

Magnacor Makes better wires than MSD............................................................................... just Thought Id add that in, and on numerous posts I've read of people having issues with the MSD coils....

OEM PCV valve, new PCV hoses if needed (usually dry and brittle)

Wix/Purolator oil filter, no Fram whatsoever

Plain NGK plugs

Plain NGK wires

Leave the coil unless it's dying

STP air filter

Cap and rotor, I just get what fits

If it's an auto (I dont know) get a Napa transmission modulator for good measure.

Seafoam the intake, it may smooth it out some more.

I personally keep regular Castrol GTX 10/40 in my car. No need for high mileage stuff IMO.

OH NO NOT A FRAM, GET THAT THING OFF!! NOW QUICK YOUR ENGINE WILL DIE, heh, I had to beat all of the fram haters (and I am one of them) to it.... But you'll be fine, just dump the foamy into it and drive it for a while then change your oil and put a at least bosch quality on it.

im afrait to put the seafoam in it to scared about making the oil leakes worse

Best way to use sea foam is through an intake manifold vacuum line, second best way is to add to fuel as an injector and fuel system cleaner, and the third, and optional use of sea foam is to add it to your oil to clean and flush the crank case. There are plenty of people out there who refuse to add anything like Seafoam to their oil; but adding it to your fuel system is an excellent idea that can't have any exaggerating effect on oil leaks.

Don't forget that subaru's like being paid attention to -- so I bet it'll help to do the tuneup, even if all the old stuff is fine. Don't know how this works, but I just repainted mine, and the gas mileage went up for the last tank.... no reason it should, but I think it likes the attention so it runs better.

Subaru's are just like girlfriends or boyfirends really  You gota pay attention to them, and gifts can have effects in seemingly unrelated areas.

On a tecnical level, I run 5W50 synthetic in mine, and it seems to like it a bit better than 10W40 -- no clicking on cold startup, and revs easier. But mine is one of the rare subies that doesn't leak oil to begin with too. I have some fancy 10,000 mile oil filter on there. Bosch I think.
