frag
Both front outer boots are shot, axles beginning to make noise on tight turns. Question: is it a good idea to replace the weel bearings outer seal (the one on the trans side) when replacing the axles. And is it an easy job or something as difficult as replacing the bearings? A guy I trust at the dealer has convinced me not to replace the bearing if they are not noisy. Should I replace the seal and is it an easy job? ru4x4ever
I did both my front axles at same time and inspected my wheel bearings and seals and nothing was torn or bad to my look. It would be your call. I left mine alone.:santa:
DerFahrer
I left mine alone too... You cannot replace the bearings all by yourself. You would have to remove the hub entirely from the car (off the strut, off the control arm, remove all brake components, etc.) and then take it to a machine shop to have the bearing pressed out of the hub... yohy
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Front wheel bearings are a pain, believe me! I would inspect but do nothing if there isn't a problem. I just did an axle on my '93 last weekend and the seals/bearings were fine.
