EJ with a Carb and Disty what do you have?

Recommended Posts

Hey Scott This is Jerry, the dissy is from a 82 escort and get the coil also. That set up has 3 wires one gose to the hot side of the coil another gose to the ground side of the coil and the last one gose to the start side of the starter. I have the drawing of it and for the carb didn't you see that intake i had at the show. You don't have to weld a 4 barrel adapture on it you can weld a 2 barrel plate on it or build your own intake. If you want a copy of the wiring for the dissy i can mail it to you. Let me know Thanks Jerry

I have no intention of ever removing the fuel injection system from my EJ22, but this carbureted business has piqued my interest from a purely mechanical point of view.

I'm also assuming you mean an '82 Ford Escort w/ 1.6L engine. Here's a pic of the distributor:

Maybe I'm missing something glaringly obvious, but how does it mount to the engine and what drives the distributor?

Hey Everybody This is Jerry, thats the dissy and it mounts on the right head in the back. There is a plug on the head that you remove and the dissy bolts to it. The cam drives the dissy. If you use the stock intake and install soft plugs in the injectors holes that solves that problem then mount a carb adapture on the manifold you have the set up. Thanks Jerry

Here are the coils.

This is the coil for the distributor mounted module:

http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=ECH&PartNumber=IC24&Description=Ignition+Coil

Here is the connector:

http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=ECH&PartNumber=ICC1&Description=Ignition+Coil+Connector

They list a coil for a Fender Mounted Module:

http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=ECH&PartNumber=IC21&Description=Ignition+Coil

However, for this application I believe you would want the distributor mounted module. Correct me if im wrong?

Prices like these make it seem better to buy new (reman) than trusting a junkyard part.

disty mt module ideal

good stuff, now if a parts car is a good risk getting the complete system is preferable , cut the wire so you get the plugs get disty with all the wires with sparkplug wires and the coil wire coil and plugs and wires on the coil and coil mt. that way I would have everything I need and wont have to peice together things thanks Scott
