Tom63050
Am planning to buy a '91 XT6 next week. Can anyone clue me in on specific problem areas with these cars so I can check them out?
Skip
Tom, nice car they are, the "cybrid" power steering is one trouble spot (they love to use up their brushes and MUST have the special Subaru fluid in them) Tons of electromechanical "gizmos" There are many forums dedicated to the six'rs. The ER27 they have is almost a clone of an EA82 with 2 extra cyl. (T-belts, lifter clack ect.) I'm sure the Trogdor will chime in. Hope this helps some
subarubrat
Ditto on the cybrid but nothing that can't be dealt with. All in all a great car, that said having owned one.
benebob
Great car. Just make sure everything seems to work like any other car. PS is an issue but usually is just the brushes. $15 from Anthony's Subaru in British Col. About $80 here at your dealer. Check out the XT6 org site or the yahoo group for more info. I tried to paste in the links but it wouldn't work. Oh yeah check the underside of the doors, front frame rail (right under your feet sitting in the front) and the rocker in front of the back wheel (where it is covered by the mud flap thang for rust just like any other vintage subie. DerFahrer
The most famous XT6 site is http://xt6.net/forum. Even though I only have a 4-cyl XT, I am very active over there and everyone is very knowledgeable and helpful... I've heard about the PS brushes myself, seem to be the wear-out part of the Cybrid system, but it would be advised that you get some of the "liquid gold" Subaru PS fluid for it. I hear there is very little left, and that it's not being produced anymore. Might wanna get a few liters at your local dealer to have on hand.
