86BRATMAN
Is everything lined up back there? And can you get it in any at all, I've had trouble getting everything in perfect alignment before when putting in ea81 axles, I have no real experiance with ea82's but they aren't too different
cobcob
You got the one with the correct spline count right? Turbo models with the 25 splines and non turbo with 23...
86BRATMAN
You got the one with the correct spline count right? Turbo models with the 25 splines and non turbo with 23... That only matters to the transmission. Hub end is the same on all of the ea82 turbo or n/a.
ZRX Doug
So you're saying that the axle stub is sliding thru the first bearing okay, but hanging up on the second one? Sounds like it's really hanging up on the first bearing, actually..think about it..the first couple inches of axle slid thru the first bearing, why would it hang up on the second when they're the same ID? First I'd check the stub for galling, rust (or that crap they coat 'em with to prevent rust on the parts store shelf) on the portion that ends up mating with the inner bearing. If you find any rust or crud, clean it off with some emery cloth or fine sandpaper..if there are galls or gouges, smooth 'em out with a file, then do the emery cloth thing. If all else fails, try chilling the stub down in a freezer overnight to temporarily shrink it a tad. You'd be amazed what a little bit of chill will do for tight fits..kinda like a cold shower, perhaps..
FlyB0y
Forgive me if this is too obvious and you already checked, but is the spacer between the 2 bearings aligned correctly? I know that sometimes the easy stuff I forget and make a quick job take forever. Once forgot the spacer altogether when I replaced the bearings now that was an expensive mistake:eek:. They aren't supposed to slide right through, they just do that once they are old and worn. Try this. Remove the Caliper, and the hub/disc assembly. Carefully pull the hub seal out of the knuckle. Now find 2 pieces of angle iron, and a big tough washer that fits over the axles stub. Use the angle iron as a *bridge* across the bearing opening, one on each side of the axle stub. You should be able to get the axle through far enough to put the nut and washer on so that it tightens against you're angle iron *bridge*. Now you can trun the axle nut with you're 36mm socket, and draw the axle through. Once you get it as far as you can, reinstall the hub.(don't forget to shove some grease in the bearing and reinstall the seal before the hub) Now the axle shoud be far enough through to get the nut on again and tighten/draw through, it the rest of the way.
