What are these lines for?

Recommended Posts

My '85 GL has three lines going through the firewall, above and towards the driver's side from the brake master cylinder. One is the line for the hill holder, one is unknown (it was hooked into what was left of the air injection system, which is now defunct, and I don't think it was supposed to be there) and one is hooked into a tee on the fuel line. The car originally had a Hitachi carb, now has a Weber and all the emissions equipment is removed (with the exception of the PCV system). Other than the hill holder line, can anyone tell me what the other two lines are for? I tore out the lower parts of the dash but still couldn't see up far enough to be able to tell where they go.

Thanks,

Andy

Could you Post a Pic of That here?

I Think the one that is hooked into a "Tee"on the fuel line, might be the "Return" Line, that Craptachi Carbs does have.

Also the remainin´ one should be the Vent for the gas tank one.

I have a Weberized Subie (see: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74206&page=1&pp=10 For Mo´ Details) and I didn´t connected the Return to a "Tee" (Seems to be a Good Idea  Anyone could tell us About? ) and I did leaved the Vent for the Tank line opened, just a 1/8º Hose is attached to it to go Down, preventing Moisture from goin´ inside.

I'm not talking about the hill holder cable, I'm talking about a hard metal brake line that goes into it. Here's a pic of the spot I'm talking about:

In the picture, the line on the left goes to the hill holder. The hose on the right tees into the fuel line near the carb. The center hose is currently not hooked to anything, though it was hooked into the defunct air injection system (which as of this afternoon is now entirely gone off the car).

Thanks,

Andy

no, it's not a return, it's a vapor vent line from the fuel tank to the charcoal canister.

According to Caboobaroo, that's what the middle line is. It's not connected to anything any more, being that my charcoal canister has been removed. I'm talking about the line on the right, which joins with the fuel line at a tee fitting near the carb.

If its not a fuel inlet, it'll be a return line to the tank. I don't too much experience with carb EA82s but I would think it should be hooked up. The breather for the tank doesn't need to be since its to help with the ozone so if you removed the canister, then no need for it to be hooked up.

It's definitely not the fuel inlet- that runs lower along the uniframe and is a much larger line. It tees directly into that line, however, so I figure it's gotta be a return.

I don't have any strong desire to unhook it, as it's working fine. Just was wondering if my guess as to what it was for was right.

Thanks,

Andy
