What does it take to get the new CV shaft into the carrier bearing on the DL? (fwd) Does it need to be greased or heated?

Maybe it's the fact that it's 4am, but I can't begin to comprehend anything that's being said in that thread. I bet that's why this stuff takes me so long to fix.

 

So do I use the nut to pull the axle into the hub?

Its easiest to just grease the CV shaft, and make sure its lined up propperly. If you dont catch it on the bearing spacer, the shaft should slide through enough to pull through. Sometimes you have to help the shaft through by tapping the steering knuckle and the CV shaft should pop through. Enough to be pulled with the bolt.
