Reverse lights stay on 95 legacy ls

Recommended Posts

Everything has been going great with legacy, had a CEL, changed the coolant temp sensor, fixed that and of course the car needs all the seals changed. The only other problem that I cant solve is when I turn on the headlights, most of the time the reverse lights stay on, which makes it unsafe to drive. They dont go out if you go into reverse and out, it will go out if I keep slamming the trunk. For now, I unhooked the lights. Any ideas?

Slam the trunk hard enough you can break the bulbs.

First thing first, check the "inhibitor" swithc (NSS switch to us plain folk). This actually turns on and off the reverse lights. Next check the sockets (all of them) to make sure there is no short or backfeed. Remove one reverse light and see iof the other still comes on. Do the smae thing for the opposit side. Remove all the bulbs except the reverse lights and see if they still come on. If not reinstall each bulb untill they do come on, and that is where to start checking.

I think you have a short someplace in the parking light sockets.

+1 for the short somewhere. best case scenario, a bulb has burned and shorted itself inside. Try this: with the lights all off, put the car in reverse. any lights other than the reverse lights come on? Just an idea to track down the short.
