Recommended Posts

I've been wondering. Can a Stock Loyale wagon 3-spd 4WD really do 130mph? I mean if i'm doing about 45-50 the tech show's 3100rpm. So can it do it?

Give it a burl anyway, non interference engine so you won't damage much if the belts let go

Wow you rebuild Subaru engines! Cool!

Anyhoo you mean the engine had power left! Yeah i know. There's no point on pushing a car if it doesnt feel right!

PS: Can you give me any info on doing a T-belt and oil pump job? I have the Milesfox info for both. but i would like something more pisific. Like do i need to remove the Radiator? And what else? And can i do it a weekend? my dad has never worked on a Subaru before. Nor a Japanese engine/vehicle. So any info is good info. Just PM me!:)

Sorry Mods for changeing the tread. It will go back to topic now...

Sure it can, down hill and hurricane force winds blowing on its tail.

I'm going to say no. You'd probably float the valves before it'd get to 120, especailly with the long gears of a 3at...

put the front on jackstands, and a few other suports, and start it and put it in drive and see how far it will go...

Hey Nipper! hahahaha! yeah i agree:lol:

And Shannon, I'll have to do that sometime. I'm just afrade it mite just some-how move or fall off and then wham! Right into the back of my parents 93 ranger!

But yeah your right the valves will probely start to float first.

I wonder if Subaru really pushed the EA82 to that speed?

I may not be thinming strait but, What do you mean?

after the corvette pushed it.

anyway, 3rd gear on a 3AT is 1:1, and they have a 3.7 axle ratio, with 23" tires, 130mph = a touch over 7k rpms.

I had my FWD 3AT loyale up to 100.....I thought I was going to die

I also got my D/R 5MT '85 pegged in FWD on ice.

Take the gen2 Legacy 2.2 for example... It has a 140mph or 120 mph speedo depending on year... But I know for a fact that my mom's shuts off at 110...

On a side note, if you do raise the front end in the air, make sure you have two sets of jackstands under it just to be on the safe side. I did it with my Integra, and my civic hatchback after some motor swaps. And all was well with them... The motor and tranny set for the hatchback was banging rev limit in 5th gear at somewhere close to the 0 mark again because it's speedo stopped at 125...

Yep i guess that's what it is.

You know my parents own a 99 Blazer S-10 4dr 4WD with the 4.3 Vortec V6 Red line@ 5500rpm. And that thing fly's! The speed-o only say's it can do 100mph. But i know it can go faster then that and probely under 5000rpm. Because if you look at the tech when your going 65-70 it's only on 1500-2000! So i wonder how fast that can go?

well yes and no. We dont drive in a vacume, so air pressure against the vehical goes up exponentially with speed.

Thats why cars can sometimes reach a higher top speed in a lower gear then their highest. They have to overcome the force of air.

The blazer will govern at 96mph, computer limited...

But any car/truck/suv must overcome wind resistance to move. The faster you go the more resistance that it must overcome. With the aerodynamics of a brick, there is only so fast you can go. It takes increasingly more power to overcome wind resistance as you go faster. FOr example the 94-98 Mustang top speed is about 155mph because of wind resistance. Granted you'd have to go a few mods to get the power to even get to that speed in one... And it wouldn't be safe to do so...

Mom's car, will fall on its face if it is allowed to shift into 4th gear, won't reach the 110mph governor unless its in 3rd...

I had a friend with one, he tested it religiously, lol. They put governors on cars for safety reasons. With a top heavy vehicle going fast a slight cross wind can lead to death.

I will never understand why jeep would allow a cherokee to go as fast as 116(also tested...)
