GeneralDisorder
Ok so I have a 94 wagon with a factory CD player. Several questions: 1. The factory AM/FM cass. deck has the AUX jack on the front. I was under the impression that by 94 these were no more. Does this mean the deck was replaced either due to malfunction or because the previous owner wanted the AUX function? 2. The factory CD player will eject discs - but that is all - the display remains dark and it will not accept a disc. You can shove it in there but it won't suck it in. The eject button works to push the disc back out but that is all. 3. Could the CD player be malfunctioning because of some jiggery-pokery done to the wiring when/if the stereo was swapped for the older Aux jack enabled model? Manarius
At this point in time, I bet the CD player is just shot as it is. Not even worth your time looking into why it doesn't work.
ericem
Maybe take it out. Look to see if there are belts and gears that are messed. Then Spray some contact cleaner on everything. Then Plug it in. If it doesnt work take out a hammer then take out a camera and take pics
Gnuman
First things first: by 94, teh AUX jack was gone. That radio/cassette unit has been swapped with a pre 92 unit (89-91). This should not affect the CD player itself ( a seperate unit) unless the CD player is from that same pre 92 car. If the CD Player itself is from 92 or later, the wiring is simple. Previous to that, however, the wiring was slightly different with regards to the lighting, and power. One likely problem you have is that the internal power supply board is gone bad. This can be replaced, and parts are available ( I found them att one time, but did not have the cash at the moment, and do not remember quite where I found them. A Google search found them for me, though) At this point your alternatives include: repairing (or having repaired) that unit, grabbing a new(er) one from a salvage yard (good luck finding one. look in any SVX, or pre 99 Legacy or Outback. You might also find one in an Impreza), Or you can go the easy route and replace the entire headunit. I have one of these as well, from a 91 LS, and replaced it with one from a 92 SVX when it started acting the same way yours is. Now the one from the SVX is acting up. . . and I still don't have the cash for parts. . . No problem, though, as I use an MP3 player with the AUX jack. .. Hondasucks
You could also get a newer unit, they changed the wiring harness at some point, put you can get reverse adaptors from Scosche (They plug into factory decks and give you wires) and just get a reverse adaptor for, say a 2000 Forester and then go get a in dash 6 disc out of a Forester, and couple the 2000 Forester reverse harness to a regular harness for a 94 Legacy. I've got a Legacy deck that works, out of a 92 with no aux jack though... I've also gotta Outback tape deck w/ weather band
GeneralDisorder
Ok - another question then. When did the AUX enabled 6 disc changers come out? My GF's 07 OBS has an AUX jack remotely located near the lighter, and it also plays MP3 discs.... what models and when did these come out? ericem
The 89-91 legacy's had the AUX standard and CD player on higher end models. 92-94 did not have AUX standard as they cheaped out and CD player on higher end models.
