Numbchux
so, it's contagious. a guy rode in my car about a month ago, then totalled his car when a tire exploded in a tunnel. and he's going to hire me to build him an EJ22 powered EA82. so, I've got a line on a cheap, known good, motor from a '96 impreza (I'm doing the harness for it's '05 WRX swap...). problem is, I'm not sure how exactly to go about routing the harness and mounting the ECU, since the imp harness goes through the firewall on the passenger side, and the ECU mounts on the floor under the glovebox. so how have you guys done it? kingbobdole
I used the stock wiring on my EJ25... or at least MOST of it... and I put the ECU where it goes stock... The ECU is a bit smaller and is only held in by a few bolts, but the wiring was the correct length, maybe a bit long even... I just took the scenic route to the pass side of the engine. Knichol
The OBDII harness should be long enough that you can run it through the firewall on the passengers side, in and below the radio area, and then to the same area as the EA82 ECU. You will have to make up some different brackets to mount it. That's what I did in mine and it seems to work fine, I don't know if you're going to keep the OBDII plug for a scan tool but if you are, I just mounted mine in the blank panel below the radio face plate. (I don't have the stock head unit) Easy access for laptop plug in and you don't have any cords at peoples feet.
kingbobdole
put the ECU where it goes stock......for the EA82? or for the EJ25...... DOH! Stock for the EA82... under the column I'm lazy so I used a hole saw and cut a large hole in the firewall on the drivers side and ran the cables through there... I have a OBD2 connecter on mine and it is "mounted" or rather tucked up above the DS kick panel so I can pull it down and use it any time... Ok heres the harness after strippage: Here's the hole I drilled: Here's the EJ ECU under the steering column: And here's all the wires running out of the big hole:
