Kostamojen Posted March 8, 2009 Author Share Posted March 8, 2009 I'm contemplating cutting off the bad first couple of threads (since they are "squished" which made them wide and too narrow to thread through) but it would put it close to the hole that the pin goes through... I already used that procedure with a couple of other spots on the suspension I fubared where clearance wasn't an issue, but with these there is less wiggle room. XT6 Magic Posted March 8, 2009 Share Posted March 8, 2009 You can always grind the diameter of the damaged section down closer to where it was and then either use a thread file of the correct pitch and do it by hand or use a re-threading die. You should be able to fix them without having to cut any material off. Working with some other techs over the years has improved my skills in damaged thread repair:grin: BTW I have been watching this thread from the beginning and it is looking great. Kostamojen Posted March 9, 2009 Author Share Posted March 9, 2009 Oh, on a side note, I've been trying to reassemble my rear brakes today and i've found all the parts I picked up that were supposedly for the FF-1 (rear brake linings, brake cylinder, brake spring kit, etc.) all are wrong I figure its because the suspension is actually a Wagon rear suspension and not a sedan rear suspension, which means all that stuff isn't compatible... Apparently the ones I bought before were for the front (so I have 4 fronts, no rears). I've found the pins and springs for the brakes now, although one of the springs is not availible anymore, the other still is. The linings are OK right now thickness wise, but I am concerned about down the road if I ever have to replace them... Kostamojen Posted March 15, 2009 Author Share Posted March 15, 2009 Small update: I just rolled the front fenders, repaired a bend on the passenger door (got a set of bodywork hammer/dolly's from Harbor Freight), and reinstalled the brake shoes on one of the rear brakes after rebuilding the original brake cylinders (I have one that needs a stud tapped though since it broke off, I basically re-used the original housing but used the internals from some of the "rebuilt" cylinders I found on ebay). I have decided I need to buy my tires before the end of the month, the sales tax is going up next month here in California! I haven't found a place to repair the wheels yet, it looks like I'll have to go with the expensive "mobile repair" wheel specialist... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
