Tranny fix vs. Tranny swap.

Recommended Posts

Here's the deal. Murphy, the $500 87 T-Wag, has a FT4WD tranny that leaks fluid, which drips on the exhaust and causes a big stink. The fluid that is in the tranny has aluminum flakes, so something is wearing internally. Should I try and fix this tranny or just replace it. The J-Yard is having a 1/2 off sale this week-end, and there are a few GL's around, though I'm not sure if they are turbos (spline count issue w/ turbo vs non-turbo). I do like the all-wheel drive aspect of the current tranny, but I've never work on the internals of a tranny, and I'm not sure if I want to attemp a rebuild, as a swap would take less time and effort. Any thoughts?

Def do a swap. Trannys are very complicated things to tackle and if dont correctly by a shop are quit expensive. If you have metal flakes coming out in the tranny oil that baby is toast. Go get a jy tranny and swap it in or convert the car to 5 speed :). Lots more fun.
