CNY_Dave
I put down a dep. on the 2003 55Kmile LLbean outback. They are a tad anemic, wonder how much the geegaws and frooferall weigh? Anyway, my purchase is contingent on the usual list of little things to be fixed. A question- does the timing chain cover get put on with a bunch of red RTV at the factory? This car was purchased at, and always serviced at the dealer where I'm buying it, but they have no record of the timing cover being off. I was surprised at the dual sunroofs, disappointed that the front one only tilts. Thanks for the responses to my prev questions- Dave
porcupine73
Sounds like a nice ride. I can't find it off hand but I think the timing chain cover is sealed with Threebond 1280B, which is a grey putty color. Anyway, none of the main Threebond sealants are red; they are white, grey, black, walnut, etc. http://www.threebond.co.jp/en/product/series/sealants/1200list.html

CNY_Dave
dealer or private...if dealer, who? LL beans are sweat. Back off- I have a deposit on it!! This is out at Rapp, the car was bought and serviced there, was just traded in. Got to see the whole service history. One of the reasons that I was looking at used dealers that also sold new subarus. I didn't ask them to fix anything they probably wouldn't to put it on the lot. One thing I did see was that the rotors had a little rust at the inner and outer edges, chewing at the pads a bit. This makes both the pads and the rotors effectively smaller, which made the brakes feel weak. All the used dealers seem to price right at the upper end of the KBB private-party price. I just missed an '01 outback with 25K miles for $12k- missed it by 2 days. Dave

3Pin
I bought an 02 LL Bean two weeks ago and absolutley love it. It does have a heavier feel with the heavier H6 up front, but it is a rocket compared to the 2.5. Good luck getting yours!

CNY_Dave
Rapp is a good dealer. Nice find, post pics when you get it I found out about the RTV- when the front bumper was replaced (minor accident into a tree) a root or rock took out the oil pan, so the cover had to come off. may have it wednesday!
