cobcob
Just because I have a spare EA81 laying around and an '88GL-10 Turbo wagon that I need to have running soon. Is it a doable swap? Would I have to use the EA81 trans also or could I get an adapter plate to hook the EA81 up to the 4EAT AWD trans? This is just a hairbrained scheme right now, looking for some pointers, I've done a search but haven't found anything specific to what I'm looking at doing... Phizinza
I think the EA82 clutch should bolt to the EA81 flywheel fine. The engine will bolt to the trans fine too. Not sure if the ECU in the GL10 will like not having an engine to run either. And you'll need to replace the fuel pump with a carb model. Maybe some new wires to the fuel pump too. And you'll need a whole set of new wires running to and around the engine. I'd say its a fair bit of work. But if thats all you have, then it is possible. WoodsWagon
The mpfi won't play with the EA81. If it was spfi, you could, but it isn't so it has to be carbed. You will need a carb fuel pump and some sort of fuel pump controller, as it won't be turned on by the ECM any more. Please don't use a toggle switch, when you crash and are trapped in a flaming car busy pumping more gas into the fire you will regret it. The tranny will bolt up, and I think the TC and flexplate should be fine.
Caboobaroo
You'll need to get an EA81 powersteering pump bracket, it looks identical to the EA82 BUT it sits the pump back futher since there's no timing belts to interfere. Tranny will bolt up fine as well but the exhaust y-pipe will need to be changed. There's a few other things but I can't remember them right now. I was looking at putting an EA81 into my EA82 coupe with the stock SPFI before I found an EA82 SPFI engine in good condition...
