Clutch safety switch, can it be adjusted, bypassed, replaced?

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I have a 1997 GT Legacy Wagon, with a 5 speed of course. I know the problem is that clutch safety switch. Sometimes my floor mat gets in the way. In the last few mornings that switch is getting harder to activate. Just were is this switch? Can it be adjusted? My car has 160K miles on it. Can it be bypassed? Or....just how easy is it to replace?

Yes I have Cruise Control!

Many thanks, SubeeTed

When mine stopped working cause of corosion, I bypassed it and have had no problem since. I still push the clutch in when I start as it has become a habit so no safety problem there (I'm the only driver).

If you wish, you could bypass it with a switch and use it as a supplementary anti theft device.

Ended up NOT being the Clutch Safety Switch! My mechanic found out that it was the Ignition Switch! Hard to tell really...we bypassed the Clutch Switch, by doing that you could really tell it was the Igniton Switch that was about to fail!

THX anyways ALL!!! SubeeTed
