turbo ??

Recommended Posts

I am planning on buying my wife a turbo xt awd auto. It has the ea82t engine, She wants it to be fast, i've never had a turbo roo before, here is the kicker, she wants it lifted with at least 28 inch tires on it, the mechanical parts i can do no problem, it just is i know nothing about turbos and with big tires, i'll have to have more power to still be quick. what can i do to accomplish this? Remember i know nothing about turbos, I thought bov, crank pressure up, what is boost cut out, @ how do you keep it from doing it? everything i need to do to make it quick, links? anything to help me to understand it better. Thanks Brad

ahh so you were the one who sniped that xt from me off ebay :banghead:

at any rate, ya get fast, or you get big.. in most cases not both.. unless you went with an XT6 that had the flat 6 cylinder engine, much more power for big tires.. me thinks your trying to start an offroader with the wrong platform..

right now i have an 1981 ea81 6 inch lifted subaru wagon, and it accelrates really good. i can usually keep up with the 4x4's at work. I am running 31x10.50x15 tires. with 3.90 rears. stock engine. but anyhow.... the reason i'm using this platform, is she wants an off-road sports car, told her to get an rx but not sporty enough. even though i will be lacking in power, what options do i have to make it as strong as possible? Will an er27 fit in a regular xt? if it would, guess i could turbo it, would stock turbo be big enough?

did ya get that black xt turbo off ebay? if so, it'd be a shame to see that one stripped out and parted for an offroader.. you do know they only made that car for 1/2 a year.... its super rare... and in too nice of shape to see it go...

as far as puttin an ER27 (6cyl) in it, you would basically need an entire xt6 for parts, as you'd need the complete wiring harness, ecu, engine, and on down the list..

personally i think you'd be better off finding an xt6 to do your build.. xt6's also had 5-lug hubs, came in fulltime 4wd, and were the same body style.. they also had 145hp and torque compared to the 110 of the ea82T.. Turbos also are not as good for 4x4in cause you gotta keep it spooled up to be of any use, which is hard if your say rock crawling..

if she really wants a sprotscar offroader, the xt6 would be the way to go.. if ya got that black xt off ebay, let me know if you decide to get rid of it for something else.. i have a lifted 84' hatch to trade :brow:

You can get power and speed out of your car with 28's....:D

We took a stock EA-82T and Boosted it to 10 psi......also has an intercooler....

Also has 3" Turbo Back exhaust......flow through cat.....

Biggest and Most important thing was to swap in a 3:90 ratio 5 speed Hi-Lo tranny out of a Non Turbo car....you will have to get non Turbo axles for the front, but everything else should be bolt in....

Having this trans Allows the turbo to spool much earlier in rpms, giving you gobs more power.....even in the bottom end of engine rpm's

I can break this wagon loose, and get side ways on pavement in 4x4......:D

feel free to call me on it, I'll explain things better to you......

Don't let anyone tell you it can't be done, cause we did it......

later, John in Oregon......

i didnt get the xt off of ebay there are 2 black xt 4 turbos at to car lots here in southern va. has to be auto, she wont learn a man. maybe ill lift it 6 inches and use an seprate transfer case, but she doesnt want me to do that..... she loves the way the xt looks. i can (maybe) get an entire parts xt-6 but it is a man. and no title, but then it would be harder to find parts for and i like the 4-6 lug conversion. and since i have 3 ea81's and 2 ea82's i have enough parts to keep an xt-4 going a while, i think. guess i'll turn up the boost a little, are their any smaller turbos that will fit? a smaller one would spool up faster than a large one (i think). Oh yeah, i'm thinking on installing a 2nd trans in my roo, if it works, i will have pics, kinda cold out side so that project is on hold for now.

one xt 4 is $800, the other is $1000, both are neg with cash! both are black, one is auto, both are turbo. also one in johnson city for $200, dont know condition or much about it though.
