moosens
Our man Charlie has a few that will be going to scrap. Speak now if you want one. There probably isn't an 1100 engine there but he has 1100 pieces and plenty of 1300's to help out. Several 1400's there. A few transmissions too,but most were seized. Still, all can be broken down and used for parts at the very least. I had him set them all aside. These are the last you'll find of the ff-1 trannies with the aluminum inboard brake drums. Jerry DeMoss
Any ea71 dual carbs? Any other rare engines?
Kostamojen
Oooh, the 1400... I'm interested. Although, what are the differences on the intake manifolds and heads between these three motors? I know the 1100 has the "3-piece" intake manifold, I think I should ditch that for a single piece if possible to eliminate those two extra gaskets, but I dont know the specifics about the setups for those other two motors to know for sure what I might want/need... moosens
Any ea71 dual carbs? Any other rare engines? Sorry,if dual carb's were there they'd be mine now. Gee,I thought these were rare engines. That's why I made this post for those who've already found out just how hard it is to find whole engines and transmissions for these cars. Oooh, the 1400... You can get gasket sets dirt cheap and have plenty of extra gaskets while keeping it original. I am not getting involved with shipping. If you want to talk with Charlie about it I'll be happy to get you two connected. If it works out that you want something and he doesn't want to ship then maybe I can store it untill I can ship it but that's a long way off. Too much on my plate right now. For sure I want to see you get those drums at the very least. He also has the front wishbones for your car and lots more.
Kostamojen
I can probably find a 1400 locally... But I'm not finding too many diagrams for that motor yet. Replacement drums... Dont know if I need those yet, don't know if I need an engine yet, so really, no worries :-p
kiwi subbie
Dams i could do with another 1400 engine. im couldnt afford the shippin
moosens
Well, since it'll kill me to see those engines tossed I'll try to make room for them and in the distant future maybe I'll break some down for easy shipping. Big maybe. If anyone wants shipping now I'll run this by Charlie and you guys can work it out. He has more time than I do with no kids, etc. so if its worth it he'll ship it. Kostamojen
I'll probably be ditching this smog pump setup on my 1100 at the very least, so I'm sure I could at least use some bits and pieces off of those motors (intake manifolds, ventilation piping, brackets, etc.) but I'll find out more when I see how this motor is doing... maudsland
The FF1 boxes are they 1100 or 1300, also would he have any 1400 5 speed boxes, why im asking is the 1100 and 1300 boxes are slight difference in the selector housing, it has the same housing as the 1400 so if you had a 1400 5 speed you can convert the FF1 to a 5 speed, and the 1300 will bolt straight into the 1100 or onto a 1400. bit of trivia the 4wd prototype was a FF1 1300 wagon Thierry
Kostamojen
Thats interesting... But would that 5-speed transmission case have the proper bolt holes/etc. required for the inboard brakes?
maudsland
not the main case, just the selector housing, swap the internals, 5th gear is situated in the selector housing same as the 4wd. if you looked at the 2 boxes side by side you will see where the bearing housing in the selctor housing where it mates to the box is bigger/ longer on the 1300/ 1400, other than the mount for the brakes the webbing seem the same between the FF1 and 1400 Thierry
moosens
Great ancient history here. There should be at least one 5speed ,but I really want one for my '73 GL Coupe. How about adapting a 1600 5speed from a Stage I or Stage II? I think Charlie said he'd done it way back when but it was a major pain. As far as I know Charlie only has 1300 and 1400 engines and some 1100 pieces from his original ff-1. He has in his garage a 1971 ff-1 wagon with a transplanted 1300. maudsland
Can not use a 1600, the shifter where it ataches to the transmission is totally different. The early boxes the shifter was supported by the box but later cars they were support by the transmission tunnel. Very hard box to find the 5 speed, only came out in the GFT which had the GSR motor in the hard top. well that was down under. Thierry
moosens
As I understand it from Charlie,he did make the swap with a lot of hard work. No early 5speeds here either since we didn't get the GSR or GFT. So,I have to guess that those 5speeds are from 1600's that Charlie has there. Geez,I could swear he said one was for a 1400. We'll see in the next few days. Still plenty of 4speeds there.

leone
Also, as I recall, the selector shaft exits the rear of the early 5-speed at a more upward angle than did the 4 speeds. Caused a slight problem with one conversion I once did, but it did make it easier to indentify the 5 speed in a scrap yard.
