piratejon
Hello Everyone, I am trying to replace the clutch fork and put a new clutch kit in my 82 GL, 2WD, 5 speed, with EA81 1.8l motor. I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I cannot locate the four bolts that hold the transmission to the motor - my manual says there are 4: 2 on top and 2 on the bottom, but there is no picture. Well, I figured these must run longitudinally through the tranny into the engine, but heck, maybe they go the other way? I've got the starter out and it looks like there are some studs that go into the engine - can these be two of the "bolts" the manual mentioned? Any assistance in locating these four points would be greatly appreciated. There is one obvious one, that comes longitudinally out of the bottom of the bell housing on the drivers side, and when I acquired the car it did not even have a nut on it! And while I have the transmission out, is there anything else I should take care of at the time? The right CV boot is torn, I will go ahead and replace both as well as do both sets of bearings. Thank you, fellow Subers.
mikeshoup
One is the long one that holds the starter on. The other one is on the other side of the motor in the same spot. Its a long bolt with a nut on the motor side. On the bottom of the bellhousing are two nuts that thread onto studs in the back of the motor. Just on either side of the transmission. That's all that holds the two together.
