Throw Out Bearing issues... please help I need my car running by friday!!!!

Recommended Posts

after succesfuly installing the tranny after replacing the clutch last night i had this itch that i did something wrong so today i had my dad help me pull the tranny back out:mad: i was upset it was a pain in the rear getting it all back together. any way i found that the retaining clips for the release(throwout ) bearing were not were they should be and i should replace them. NOw im upset becuase the parts dept is usualy closed on sunday so i have to figure out a car to drive to work in the morning:-\ so thats worked out now i have a car, but now i hope i can get the proper clips from the dealer. i now will be installing the tranny at night after work possibly tomarow in the dark and hopfully the weather stays nice.

My next issue is the throw out bearing alignment. please look at the picture and tell me what way this bearing should be installed, its brand new and looks just like the one that came off the car.

notice the gap on the top and bottom of that plastic bushing that the bearing slides back and forth on. shoud that be on the top our bottom when i install the bearing. there has to be a reason for this..

Many throwout bearings are self-aligning/self-centering; even if they appear to be "off" before installation, they align correctly when in use.

it just seems kindof strange, and no most bearings newones that i have looked at are all the same. they look off center

Dues can only be paid in the rain and cold.

A drivetrain or engine bearing will not have a stamped shell. That stamped outervshell probably floats around the machined bearing even if tightly fitting.

You're young. Applicance carton cardboard is your friend for working under a car. Please use jackstands on a level surface.
