3Pin
Have a bad engine in a 2000 forester with a manual. What is the best 2.2 engine swap for this? I did put a 95 2.2 into my 98 Forester, but that was an automatic. Thanks for the help in advance.

3Pin
After searching the swaps, it looks like a 99 2.2l is the easiest best swap for a 2000 Forester with a manual. Something about the 99 2.2 being a phase II by then, but not much more info than that. Does anyone else have an opinion? How much more work is it on a 95 or 96 2.2 manual? idosubaru
get the 99 2.2 and get the exhaust header as well. what you'll really want to make sure of is that the EGR systems are identical, it will either have it or not have it. if the 99 in the forester has EGR, you'll want to make sure the 2.2 has it as well. did you pick that forester up from a dealer? i was looking at one up that way, they never called back. maybe it's because you got it! 3Pin
This car has a stick. Will it have an EGR?
idosubaru
This car has a stick. Will it have an EGR? not sure, i want to say it will, but i can't recall when the quit putting the EGR on. i think they quit at some point. is this car from a dealer? that would be funny if it was the same one i was looking at. idosubaru
No, this one is private party.hmmm, it was a long shot but would have been cool for you to get it versus someone else. so long as you retain your intake manifold i don't think you'll have a problem installing another year EJ25. i don't think the EJ22 and EJ25 intakes swap so you can't do it that simply. WAWalker
Your Phase II 2.5L intake should fit on a Phase II 2.2L from a Legacy. I don't see why that wouldn't work. But I do not remember if the Phase II 2.2L's have EGR. I believe they do. A '95-'96 2.2L is out of the question for what you want to do. Won't work. 3Pin
Thanks for the info on the 95-96 not working out. It saves me a stupid move. Looks like the 99 2.2 or a different 2.5 will have to do.
cookie
I was trying to figure that out myself. I have a 99 Forester that I'm planning on eventually using a 2.2 in. I'll have to check to see if it has EGR. The extra bolts would seem to me to make it necessary to use a 99 up 2.2.
soobiedo
Does anyone know if a 2001 2.2L from an Impreza will swap into a 2000 Forester, MT? My biggest concern is plugging in the wiring harness. I know I'll have to swap y-pipe, tap the starter hole, etc.

subaru360
99 2.2 phase 2 into a 2000 forester should work fine. I did a 99 2.2 into a 99 forester and it came out well. I swapped the intake over, I think the crank or cam sprocket too, don't remember which, check both and you need a single port y pipe.
